NoJSe Think Tank Meeting
Following the success of the first NoJSe Think Tank in 2023, BUSTER Film Festival and the NoJSe network are excited to host the second annual NoJSe Think Tank on 2nd October 2024.
The NoJSe network is a collaboration between five festivals for Children’s Film and Media in the Nordic countries: Buster Film Festival in Copenhagen, Denmark; Malmö Filmfestival in Sweden (BUFF); Kristiansand International Children’s Film Festival (BFF) in Norway; Oulu International Children’s and Youth Film Festival in Finland; and Reykjavík International Film Festival (RIFF) in Iceland. We collaborate on a political level by facilitating conversations for the Industry of children’s media and on a practical level with translation, distribution, streaming and screenings of new nordic films for children and youth in the Nordic region.
This year we have an exciting group of young directors and producers coming to talk about their experiences of working with children’s film in the Nordic countries to talk about what attracted them to the industry, what can be improved for creatives working within it, and how we can produce the most resonant Nordic films for the young audience.
The guest speakers this year are:
- Rikke Tambo Andersen (Tambo Productions) / Denmark
- Gunnbjörg Gunnarsdóttir (Director / Victoria Must Die) / Norway
- Sara Gunnarsdóttir (Director / My Year of Dicks) / Iceland
- Alli Haapasalo (Director / Girl Picture) / Finland
- Aka Hansen (Director / Half&half) / Greenland
- Erik Lundqvist (Producer / Nordic Drama Queens) / Sweden
- Maria Tórgarð (Director / Skál) / Faroe Islands
The event is moderated by Mette Damgaard-Sørensen.
Through research, case studies and observer participation, the Think Tank explores how we can promote creativity, inclusivity and dialog across borders. Together we develop guidelines and ethical frameworks, discuss best practices and focus on the future of the industry. Our goal is to support an ecosystem that enables the creation of even better film and media content for children and young people in the Nordic countries in the future.
In 2023, the results of the Think Tank were compiled in a report by media researcher Johanna Koljonen, and presented at the Berlinale. The report takes stock of film production for children and young people in the Nordic region, the influence of streaming services and the possibilities of getting a film for the young target group financed in the Nordic funding systems. A similar report will be compiled following the 2024 Think Tank. Admittance to the Think Tank is by invitation only.
