About the film

Canada, 1976. 11-year-old Elizabeth can't wait to reach puberty. But an even bigger revelation awaits her, when she accidentally discovers that her entire life has been a lie. It turns out that Elizabeth is adopted and that her parents have kept it a secret. Anger, disappointment and confusion are replaced by determination, after she convinces herself, that she's probably the daughter of Dolly Parton. One night she sneaks out of the house and heads towards the U.S on her bicycle, where she knows Dolly Parton will be giving a concert soon. 'The Year Dolly Parton Was My Mom' is a sensitive and amusing story about finding oneself, forgiving and realizing that love transcends biology.
